Dr Richard A. Bartle is Senior Lecturer and Honorary Professor of Computer Game Design at the University of Essex, best known for having co-written the first virtual world, MUD, in 1978. His book "Designing Virtual Worlds" is the standard text on the subject, and in 2010 he was the first recipient of the prestigious GDC "Online Game Legend" award. We are incredibly proud to have him talk at GameCity, where he will discuss his career and announce his discovery of a highly optimised and massively-deployable interface enabling unfettered play for the human imagination.
