Interested in how games get written? Thinking about writing games as a career? Then why not drop into this informal workshop sessions covering all aspects of game writing, including but not restricted to:
  • What Game Writers Actually Do: the different roles on the different sizes and shapes of project.
  • Writing Pitches for publishers and developers.
  • Writing concept docs for artists, level designers, audio designers and coders.
  • Writing actable scripts for actors: scripts for voice Over, Motion Capture and CGI cinematics.
  • Exposition, Exposition, Exposition: how to inform players without boring them.
  • How to get a job: (including the perfect writer's CV)
  • The Difference between writing for film/TV/radio and Games: when getting better at screenwriting makes you worse.
  • Why stuff ends up clichéed.
  • Narrative v Interaction: Explicit/Implicit and environmental
  • narrative, including when NOT to explain
  • Directing actors for Voice Over and Motion Capture sessions.
  • What game scripts look like.

What do you need to take part? A pen, and your ideas. There'll be writing exercises you can complete during the sessions, or you can return to later sessions for feedback.
